Our Core Services

Occumed offers a wide range of occupational health services tailored to your business’s needs. Our programs are carried out in compliance with both national and international health standards..

Medical Surveillance:

Medical Surveillance Program Overview
Occumed implements a systematic program of periodic examinations for employees, including clinical assessments, biological monitoring, and other medical tests. This program evaluates employee fitness for duty and assesses health impacts from workplace exposures, guided by employer-supplied job specifications and test results.

A basic medical examination includes:

• Full physical examination
• Height and weight measurement
• Urine test
• Blood pressure and pulse check
• Glucose test
• Vision screening (Keystone or Ortharator test)
• Lung function test
• Audiometric screening (hearing test)

These programs are conducted at our clinic or on-site by an Occupational Health Practitioner, or an Occupational Medical Practitioner if required. Additional tests may be performed based on industry-specific needs and client requirements.

Drug Tests:

According to the client’s requirements and company policy, we conduct cannabis and multi-drug tests, particularly crucial in the Transport and Mining Industries.

Workmen’s Compensation

Employees with occupational health injuries or diseases are assessed by our Occupational Medical Practitioner (OMP), who prepares and submits the required documentation to Workmen’s Compensation

Primary Health Care:

The South African healthcare system is challenged by inadequate funding, staff shortages, and a growing patient population with urgent needs.

As a result, employees newly diagnosed with chronic illnesses, such as hypertension and diabetes, may be kept away from work longer than necessary. To support both employers and employees, Occumed-SA, provides private primary healthcare services, facilitating a quicker return to the workplace.

HIV/AIDS training and education & Voluntary Counseling and testing (VCT)

HIV/AIDS has been around since the early 1980’s and one would expect every person to consider going for VCT routinely as part of their yearly medical check-up. Unfortunately this couldn’t be further from the truth, people in general still shy away from talking about it and gaining the necessary information that will empower them to make an informed decision regarding VCT.

Our program therefore focuses on HIV/AIDS training and education to equip employees with the correct information regarding the illness
before implementing the VCT program. Due to the vast numbers of employees we come in contact with on a daily basis we have first hand knowledge on the devastating effects HIV/AIDS have on employees, their families, workplace and the economy as a whole.

Early detection and an appropriate treatment regime have been proven very effective in keeping employees healthy and productive.

Wellness Training & Education:

Most employees going through our occupational health practice suffer from undiagnosed chronic illnesses e.g. hypertension, diabetes etc. and even though we educate them on the spot, the treatment noncompliance
percentage remained exceptionally high. We identified
the need for a wellness training and education program which proved invaluable once implemented. With the power of knowledge given to employees the treatment compliance increased significantly.

It has therefore become evident that employees needed a better understanding of their illness and the potential adverse health effects they could suffer from due to non-compliance. Education and training has proven to be pivotal in changing the behavior and general health condition of employees.

Travel Clinic:

The objective of this service is to ensure that travelers receive up to date and accurate information regarding the area they are planning to visit; this includes the health and safety risks associated with their destination.

The ultimate goal is to ensure that the traveler has the protection required through administering the correct vaccinations, enjoy a great vacation and get back home safely and in excellent health.

Legislative and Compliance Training:

Our Legislative Training program provides essential skills and knowledge to help organizations stay compliant with South African health and safety regulations.

This includes comprehensive First Aid Training to equip employees with life-saving skills for workplace emergencies, Health and Safety Training to foster a safe work environment and reduce risks, and First Aid Box Refilling Training to ensure that first aid supplies are properly maintained and readily available.

By adhering to legal standards, this training promotes a safer, more responsive workplace, protecting both employees and employers.
